Academic Performance
Southway accepts students throughout the year based on the needs of the referring schools; often these are students who have had a fragmented learning experience during their time at a mainstream school, in Key Stages 3 or 4 and sometimes both.
In some cases, students may not have begun any KS4 qualification programmes prior to arriving at Southway owing to persistent absence or general disengagement, or, they may have some learning but with gaps, or they may have studied alternative syllabuses and specifications to the ones we can offer.
The 2023/24 Year 11 cohort consisted of 35 students. 40% of this cohort arrived at Southway during Year 11; a further 20% of the cohort arrived from January onwards of their Year 10, a factor sometimes limiting our ability to deliver multiple qualifications.
Headline performance:
In addition to the above qualifications, students also achieved one or more NCFE qualifications in the following courses:
- Art
- Food and cookery
- Health and fitness
- Music
This year Southway continued to enjoy success with Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award at Key Stage 4, which has proved to be a huge success.
All KS4 students are registered with E-DofE which is an online platform which means any skills achieved are transferable as students move on to further education, employment and training. To date, 7 students have achieved the full DofE Bronze Award and a further 7 students achieved more than one element of the DofE Award (which is transferable).
Combined, students achieved 139 qualifications.
